Telugu Actress Pavala Syamala Dies at 75, Weeks After Reported Health And Financial Struggles

A veteran actress in Telugu films, Pavala Syamala, died at Osmania General Hospital in Telangana's capital, Hyderabad, on Tuesday, July 28. This came just weeks after she was reportedly denied admission to a hospital and was found homeless on the streets of Hyderabad. She reportedly suffered a heart attack at the age of 75.

According to sources, Syamala had been suffering from various heart-related ailments for quite some time. Her last rites will be performed later in the day. Fans have been mourning their favourite actress on social media, posting condolence messages after the news of her death broke.

Actress' Health Woes, Financial Struggles

Shyamala came into the limelight once again in May after she was seen roaming in the streets. According to reports, on May 15, she visited a private hospital in Kukatpally to seek medical treatment. However, as she did not have enough money for the treatment, she was reportedly turned away.

She was taken back home in a taxi, but the taxi driver allegedly abandoned her on the way. Some people who saw the veteran actress wandering in a confused state informed others about her condition. She was then taken to the RK Foundation. Dil Raju, actor and chairman of the Telangana Film Development Corporation, ensured her admission to a hospital after learning about her condition.

It is reported that she suffered from ill health as well as financial troubles in the later years of her life. Her family faced difficulties due to her daughter's health issues. Syamala breathed her last early on Tuesday morning.

Born in Amaravati, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, Pavala Syamala, also popularly called Neti Syamala, entered the film industry through stage performances. She made her debut in Telugu films with Jandhyala's Babai Abbai in 1985, which featured Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role. She became widely known after appearing in K. Viswanath's Swarnakamalam (1988), starring Venkatesh and Bhanupriya.
