‘Ohh My Dog’ Postponed to August 7, Amit Rai Says Spider-Man Clash Prompted Delay

Pankaj Tripathi’s upcoming family entertainer ‘Ohh My Dog’ was set to hit the theatres on July 31. However, the release date of the film has been postponed by a week. It is now scheduled to debut on the big screens on August 7. 

According to sources, the film’s director, Amit Rai, revealed that the reason behind the postponement was fewerscreens and a clash with other big releases. He also admitted that he made a mistake by releasing his Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer OMG 2 with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 in 2023.

Amit Rai on Why ‘Ohh My Dog’ Was Postponed

When asked about delaying the release date of his movie Ohh My Dog, Amit Rai responded, 

“We made a practical decision because the screens will get occupied with Spider-Man.” The Odyssey has already taken over theatres, and Dhamaal 4 is showing on two screens as well. Our target audience is primarily family-oriented, and they will be dispersed among all of these movies, with a significant portion going to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Increasing the number of screens won't even be possible.

The director also talked about how his close friends and family responded well to the upcoming film. 

"We have been holding special group screenings since I can't refuse close friends. We conducted them in Jaipur, Lucknow, and Kolkata because I wanted feedback. I made the decision overnight because of the overwhelmingly good response. The audience's response, particularly that of the kids, was amazing and exceeded my expectations," he said.

Additionally, Rai recalled making the grave error of releasing his movie ‘OMG 2’ on the same day as ‘Gadar 2’, which ended up being the bigger success. 

"I didn't want only my close friends to give that encouraging feedback. It must reach people and grow in size. The same thing happened to my previous movie, which both my friends and the crew adored. Although it received an 'A' certificate, they still wanted it to be displayed in schools. I continued to argue that the release date ought to be adjusted despite that," he clarified.

‘I Don’t Want to Repeat History’: Rai

Filmmaker Amit Rai discussed the decision in a message to the media, stating that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is anticipated to "create history" with an opening of "around Rs 50 crore," leaving little space for other movies. 

"We just won't have the space to occupy screens, even after making such a good film," he said.

Explaining the postponement of ‘Ohh My Dog’, Rai stated that the team chose to "step aside briefly", postpone the release by a week, and return once viewers had watched the bigger releases. 

"There will be some room by then, and we might be able to grow there."

'Ohh My Dog' stars Maahi Rai and Pavan Malhotra in addition to Pankaj Tripathi. The family drama addresses the serious issue of dog trafficking while telling the tale of a small child's unconditional bond with a stray dog. Along with almost 250 real dogs, it also includes canine celebrities Oscar and Bruno.

Major Clash

For those who don't know, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey debuted in theatres last week and has been doing well at the box office. Globally, it has already surpassed $600 million. However, next week, on July 31, Marvel's eagerly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also be released.

However, due to Nolan's The Odyssey securing a four-week global IMAX exclusivity window starting on July 17, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will not be released in IMAX. There are no IMAX screens left for the Marvel release as a result of this block.
