Huma Qureshi Turns 40: “Beta, Khana Khaya?” Huma Qureshi’s Mother’s Love Behind Her Success Journey

Huma Qureshi is celebrating her 40th birthday today. She was born on July 28, 1986, in New Delhi. She is now considered a veteran Bollywood actress. She started her Bollywood career in 2012 with the film debut, “Gangs of Wasseypur”.

She played the role of Mohsina Hamid, who was the lover and later wife of the main character Faizal Khan, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The character made her widely popular in the Bollywood industry. After this successful start, she went on to feature in more than 30 films and recently made headlines with her film “Baby Do Die Do”, which was released on July 3 this year.

In a heartfelt tribute to her mother, actress Huma Qureshi described her as one of the strongest people she had ever known, even before she entered the film industry.

The Gangs of Wasseypur actress recently shared a reflection on her mother's influence on her life through an Instagram post. According to Huma, her mother taught her the true meaning of strength, which is quiet, patient, and always filled with love and compassion.

Huma Qureshi participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign and planted a tree in honour of her mother. According to the actress, the gesture was a symbol of love and gratitude. She said the initiative was a meaningful way to honour her mother's strength, compassion, and unconditional support.

“Some of the strongest women I have ever known, I met long before any film set, starting with my mother,” Qureshi wrote alongside a picture of herself planting a tree. “She showed me that true strength is quiet, patient, and selfless. Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam stays with me because of this.”

She further added, 

“A tree planted in your mother's honour is more than just a sapling in the ground; it is gratitude that continues to grow season after season, long after the words ‘thank you’ have faded.”

Ameena's Love For Huma

A very sweet story about Huma and her mother happened when Huma first moved from Delhi to Mumbai to become an actress. Her mother, Ameena, was very worried about her daughter living alone in a big new city. To make sure Huma ate well and felt safe, her mother packed multiple suitcases filled with homemade Delhi snacks, traditional spices, and home-cooked meals, treats that Huma still says are her ultimate comfort food.

Even today, despite her busy shooting schedules, Huma makes it a rule to video call her mother every single day just to chat. She fondly shares that no matter how famous she becomes or how many awards she wins, to her mother, she is still just a little girl. Her mother's first question on every call is never about her films, but simply: 

"Beta, khana khaya?" (Did you eat, child?), according to Huma.
