After being delayed from its initial August release, Rajkummar Rao's courtroom drama Prahaar has now secured a fresh release date. The festive Dussehra window will now be the focus of the Avinash Arun Dhaware film, placing it in the midst of a potentially busy weekend at the box office.
Maddock Films posted the revised release date on social media.
"Ab hoga justice ka PRAHAAR on 16th October. PRAHAAR - The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, in cinemas 16th October 2026" was the caption used by the production company to announce the new release date.
Prahaar postponed amid August release clashes
The initial release date of Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam was August 7. Since August already had a number of significant releases scheduled, the film's producers decided to postpone it.
According to reports, September 4 was also an option for the filmmakers, but it would have put the movie in direct conflict with Mirzapur: The Movie, so the idea was dropped.
Prahaar faces three-way box office clash
However, two significant South Indian releases, Dhanush's Om and Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, will still compete with Prahaar. This creates a three-way battle at the box office.
Rajkummar Rao to portray Ujjwal Nikam
Rajkummar Rao plays public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam in Prahaar, which is directed by Avinash Arun Dhaware and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films. Sikandar Kher, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Wamiqa Gabbi all play important roles.
The movie examines Nikam's career and his role in a number of well-known criminal cases, such as the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, a suspect in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. It is anticipated that the film will highlight both his legal battles and the difficulties he faces on a personal level.
