The Sunny Deol-starrer Batwara 1947 (earlier known as Lahore 1947) has hit the big screens today, nearly three decades after Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol teamed up for a movie. 

This period drama, which revolves around the Partition of India, stars not only Sunny Deol but also Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi. Its release on the eve of Independence Day adds another layer to its historical theme.

In advance reservations, the movie has received a middling response. The Rajkumar Santoshi-directed film has sold over 65,000 tickets for more than 8,800 screenings in India, according to the most recent Day 1 advance booking report from trade tracker Sacnilk.
