A day after BJP leader Rekha Arya accused her husband, Girdhari Lal Sahu, of physical assault, harassment, caste-based abuse and death threats, Sahu on Friday accused her of amassing assets worth Rs 210 crore through illicit means.

Sahu urged Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to order an inquiry into the allegations against Arya. In a video, he called for an investigation into the alleged corruption by an appropriate agency. However, he did not provide any documentary evidence to support his claims and said he would share the details soon.

He also dismissed an audio clip shared by Arya as "fake, AI-generated and fabricated". Arya claimed that the clip contained a plot to murder her.

Sahu Denies Allegations, Urges Arya to Withdraw FIR

On Thursday, Arya filed a complaint against Sahu at the Cantt police station in Dehradun. According to reports, she was admitted to a hospital on Friday after her condition worsened.

Sahu urged the minister to withdraw the FIR and retract her statements, claiming that the audio recording was intended to create discord within the family. He described the allegations against him as baseless.

Sahu claimed to have supervised Arya's election campaigns and sought votes for her for 17 years. He accused her of becoming arrogant after attaining public office.

"You are acting haughtily because you think you will serve as a minister or an elected official for the rest of your life. But life doesn't work like that. There are many highs and lows in it. You are in power today, but you have forgotten the days when I helped you reach where you are today," he said in a video that appeared to have been shot inside a car.

"If you do not take back your statement, Bhole Baba will hold you accountable for every single thing," Sahu said, claiming that his role in her political rise was well known across Uttarakhand.

Arya Accuses Sahu of Assault, Threats and Forgery

On Thursday, Arya posted a video on social media accusing Sahu of abusing and harassing her, threatening to kill her and using caste-based slurs. The FIR reportedly includes provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

In her October 15 complaint, Arya alleged that Sahu had used forged documents to remove her from directorships in certain companies, assaulted and intimidated her, and concealed a previous marriage from her. She also referred to an audio recording that she believes captures Sahu discussing a plan to kill her with another woman.

The Congress questioned Chief Minister Dhami about the steps being taken to protect the minister and demanded an impartial investigation.

Congress spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni described the matter as deeply distressing and called for a fair investigation and a forensic examination of the audio recording.
