Uttarakhand Weather Alert: IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rainfall in Several Districts

A number of districts in Uttarakhand are under an orange alert, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Beginning on July 27, the IMD has warned of lightning, thunderstorms, squalls, and heavy to extremely heavy rains. 

Secretary of the Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department for the Government of Uttarakhand Vinod Kumar Suman reviewed the preparations for disaster management during a meeting at the State Emergency Operations Centre on Saturday.

Orange Alert Across Uttarakhand

According to the Secretary, it is expected to rain in Dehradun and Bageshwar on July 27. Rainfall is also expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Nainital and Dehradun on July 28. Then on July 29 it is expected to rain in Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Bageshwar.

He asked that the officers and employees who did excellent work during the disaster be honoured on national festivals and State Foundation Day and that the details of disaster management equipment and trained human resources be uploaded for all districts on the portal.

Pilgrims Urged to Stay Alert

Instructions have been given to ensure special monitoring, quick response, and advance preparations in sensitive areas. Meanwhile, continuous rainfall may put low-lying places and hilly tracks at higher risk.

The devotees travelling on the Char Dham route are advised to check local weather updates before proceeding and to halt in safe areas during heavy rainfall.
