UP: 14-Year-Old Detained in Gorakhpur for Raping Infant Sleeping Beside Mother

A 14-year-old boy was arrested from a village in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly kidnapping and raping a nine-month-old girl.

According to sources, he kidnapped the child while she was sleeping beside her mother on Friday. When the family realised that the child was missing, they started searching for her in the village and surrounding areas. After searching everywhere, the baby was found 500 meters away from the home, lying in a field.

Medical Examination Reveals Assault

The child who suffered severe injuries, was referred to the hospital and is under treatment, where doctors found that she had been sexually assaulted. Meanwhile, other forensic and medical tests are still awaited.

Police officials said that the teenager claimed he was drunk when the incident occurred.

Officials checked the CCTV cameras of the village and questioned locals to establish the sequence of events and identify the suspect.

Police took the 14-year-old's relatives in for questioning, as they had recently returned to the village.

Police official Patil Nimish Dashrath said

“During interrogation, the juvenile confessed to the crime and admitted that he had taken the infant from the house while she was asleep beside her mother.”

The police said the boy would be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board for further legal proceedings. They claimed to have recovered several objectionable videos from the boy’s mobile phone during a preliminary examination of the device. The contents of the phone are being analysed as part of the investigation.
