Air India is currently conducting a test among their pilots to find out whether they have indulged in any kind of abuse of prohibited substances. Two more pilots have been identified as suspected cases for Air India. Air India is currently conducting a test among its pilots, wherein it is conducting the test among all of them. As of now, they have conducted this test on about 350 pilots in just the last week. The authority has clarified that just because the results of the test have turned out negative, it does not mean that the pilots are clean. The pilots will undergo other tests to ensure their safety in accordance with the regulations.

Scare following a flight from Phuket

The airline is now conducting tests on all of its pilots a few days after an incident occurred on a flight from Phuket to Delhi. The pilot of the flight tested positive for marijuana use. To ensure safety in flying, the airline is conducting the drug test on all of its pilots, including those of Air India and Air India Express. The airline employs a total of 5,000 pilots, and they are all subjected to the drug test. The pilot from the flight from Phuket to Delhi failed twice in the test.

Air India Launches Pilot Testing Programme

Testing began on August 13, following an email sent by Manish Uppal, the man responsible for flight operations at Air India, to the pilots informing them that they would check for prohibited drugs and medicines. This process will take place at the training academy of Air India located in Gurugram, Flight Briefing Centres, offices of Air India, and many other designated places post-flights. This comes after an incident on August 4, involving flight AI2379, an Airbus A320neo aircraft that experienced a sudden drop of 300 feet during the flight. Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is investigating this case. The pilot in command, who tested positive for marijuana, stated that he was taking medication for sleeping problems and was stripped of his flying duties.
