Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is the Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, made some remarks regarding the state government in the Assembly on Monday. Udhayanidhi Stalin believes that the drug menace is on the rise in the state of Tamil Nadu, hence the numerous violent acts. These remarks were made by Udhayanidhi Stalin on the same day when the Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay turned 100 days into office. All along, the government has been discussing all the achievements it has registered on behalf of the citizens since assuming power. Udhayanidhi Stalin used the Assembly session to address an issue that he feels is a very important one in relation to the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu.
Coimbatore Case is a Murder, Not a Gang War
Stalin raised the case of 19-year-old Amudhan who was killed in Coimbatore, stating that the matter must not be termed a clash involving a gang. Amudhan was from the SC community and had been shot dead because he had informed the police about the drug peddling in the area, which is what his parents have claimed too. Stalin stated that drugs must have been confiscated by then and their absence caused the youth’s death. Stalin also mentioned the murder of a Class 12 student, Dhanush, who was killed in Tiruvottiyur, Chennai, for asking some people about their drug peddling activities.
Opposition Calls for Drug Awareness Drive in Schools
According to Stalin, all of these incidents, along with some sexual harassment cases that came to light recently, took place within a week. He called on the government to launch counseling drives in schools and conduct sustained public awareness drives against drug abuse. As per Stalin, the celebrations held by the government for their 100-day anniversary are contrary to the ground situation in Tamil Nadu.
