The Bharatiya Janata Party has responded back to Rahul Gandhi’s claim about the Home Minister, Amit Shah being responsible for the police firing on the students protesting at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi on June 20. Responding to the Congress leader, Union Minister J.P. Nadda questioned why he was ignoring the protest by students in Jharkhand even though Gandhi himself condemned the use of police force against peaceful protesters in Jharkhand as well.
In response to the conflict, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has stated that the government is willing to discuss the matter in Parliament only on one condition that the opposition remains present and silent until the end of their response in the parliamentary house.
Addressing a media conference on Monday, Rahul Gandhi demanded Amit Shah to answer whether he gave the orders to fire upon the protesting students, requesting his resignation if that was the case or if he was unaware about the unfortunate happenings.
Nadda dismissed it as misinformation, and said that there was no firing from Jantar Mantar and no such order was given by the government or the Minister of Home Affairs. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal supported this statement, stating that Shah is ready to respond.
The violent protests and the unrest that took place on 20 July 2026, following the demands for reforms in education system and the resignation of the education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan has resulted in 60 injured protesters and 118 police personnel.
However the Delhi Police and the Government have straight-up denied the use of firearms and brutal force in the protests that had occurred at the Jantar Mantar.
Nevertheless, a BBC Hindi report mentions the statement by Nutan Toppo, a citizen of Gumla district, Jharkhand, who claims that she was grazed by a bullet which caused "gunshot injury to the ear," according to hospital records. Ballistic experts also confirmed to the BBC that some protesters' injuries corresponded with pellet gun injuries.
