PM Modi Forms Task Force Led by Nandan Nilekani to Make Exam System Leak-Proof

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of a high-level task force led by former UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani to recommend ways to make the nation's examination system technology-driven and leak-proof on Sunday.

PM Modi stated,

“We should make sure that our exam system is reliable, open, and technologically advanced. A powerful task force that will focus on examination reforms will be established under the leadership of renowned technology expert Nandan Nilekani.”

Nilekani to Lead Expert Panel

According to sources, Former UIDAI chairman Nandan Nilekani, former ISRO chairman S. Somnath, former IB director Tapan Deka, former IIT Madras director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics specialist Amrit Lal Meena will make up the multidisciplinary panel of domain experts that will assist in revamping the National Testing Agency (NTA) examination system, particularly from a technological standpoint, and bringing about structural reforms.

PM Announces High-Level Committee

PM Modi announced the formation of the powerful committee in an Instagram video. The announcement came a day after former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tendered his resignation following public outrage over the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2026 paper leak and the subsequent re-examination.

Pralhad Joshi Assumes Charge

On Sunday, July 26, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi formally assumed charge of the Ministry of Education at Kartavya Bhavan. 

Besides holding the portfolios of New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, and Food and Public Distribution, Joshi chaired a meeting at the Ministry to review the implementation of various programmes and initiatives.

Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary was also present at the meeting. According to officials, Joshi discussed school infrastructure and highlighted key programmes such as Samagra Shiksha, PM-SHRI Schools, and PM POSHAN.

Senior Ministry officials, including T. K. Anil Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, and Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, were also present.

After taking charge of the Education Ministry, Pralhad Joshi said,

“The Prime Minister has entrusted me with this responsibility with full confidence. I was in Karnataka yesterday. I reached here last night and came this morning to take charge. I have assumed charge.”

“I am reviewing all the details here and the decisions that need to be taken. I have been gathering information and trying to understand the functioning of the Ministry. We had continuous meetings today. This is a new subject for me. I have taken charge today and held detailed discussions with the senior officers. It is a very big Department, so I will speak to you in detail after I have understood it completely."
