Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on August 8, highlighting the institution’s longstanding contributions to research and innovation.

PM Modi announced his visit on X. He stated,

“At 11 AM tomorrow, 8th August, I will be attending the Convocation Ceremony at IIT Delhi. I look forward to being among the students and teachers of this pioneering institution. IIT Delhi has always made a rich contribution in the fields of research and innovation.”

 

PM Modi’s Message To IIT Graduates

PM Modi participated in the 57th convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi. He told IIT Delhi graduates not to forget their teachers and to thank them for their support.

He presented the institute’s highest accolades, such as the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and Perfect Ten Gold Medals to deserving students.

PM Modi Unveils Param Pragya Facility

He awarded degrees to over 3,000 graduates and remotely inaugurated Param Pragya, a new AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at the institute’s Sonipat campus.

PM Modi also encouraged students to embrace upcoming technological opportunities in semiconductors, quantum computing, and AI, noting that India is moving strongly from “chips to ships”.

Top Officials Attend IIT Delhi Convocation

IIT Delhi had 3,036 graduating students this year, including 1,049 BTech, 567 MTech, 248 MBA, 243 MSc, and 587 PhD graduates. The first graduation ceremonies for the Bachelor of Design (BDes), Executive MBA, MSc in Biological Sciences, and MA in Culture, Society, and Thought programmes also took place during the convocation.

Prof. Abhay Karandikar of NITI Aayog and Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi were the guests of honour.
