American media executive and the co-chief executive officer (co-CEO) of Netflix, Ted Sarandos, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in New Delhi. The meeting discussed strengthening India's entertainment sector, taking Indian stories to a global audience, and promoting the creative industry.
PM Modi remarked that India has a rich tradition of storytelling and an extraordinary pool of creative talent, which can be leveraged to strengthen the nation's position as a global hub for content creation.
In a post on X, the PM stated,
“Glad to have met Mr. Ted Sarandos. Discussed the immense potential of India’s media and entertainment sector.”
Meanwhile, Netflix India shared a post on its official X account. It stated,
“Celebrating 10 years of Netflix in India! It was an honour for our Co-CEO Ted Sarandos to meet Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to discuss their shared vision to take India’s media and entertainment industry global.”
Co-CEO Ted Sarandos arrived in New Delhi to formally mark 10 years of Netflix in India. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the next decade of local investments. In order to make films and television shows more accessible for viewers with visual and hearing impairments, the cooperation will involve training for audio description writers and voice artists.
According to Netflix, the audio description skilling program will be in line with both local storytelling customs and international standards, as well as the common goal of the Government of India and Netflix to improve inclusive storytelling.
