A 22-year-old NEET aspirant, Umesh Mali, was found dead at his residential flat in Rajasthan's Sikar district, days before the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21.

Living in Sikar for NEET

According to sources, Umesh Mali was a resident of Kari village in the Nawalgarh area of Jhunjhunu district. He was living with his mother, elder sister, and younger brother in Sikar and preparing for the NEET exam.

According to the police, this was his third attempt. Police found a suicide note in his room, which is under investigation. However, its contents have not been made public yet.

What happened before the incident

His family members said that Umesh went with his mother to drop her at their village, and after that, he returned to his flat. After some time, his brother and sister entered his room, and he was found unconscious. The police were called afterwards.

Second incident in the same area

The police have sent the body for postmortem to Sri Kalyan Government Hospital, and investigations are underway. The incident is the second such incident involving a NEET candidate in Sikar within a month, raising concerns about exam pressure and mental stress in the area.

Earlier, another student preparing for the examination was found dead in the city after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the May 3 NEET-UG 2026 examination over a paper leak.

The earlier incident occurred on the same day the government announced June 21 as the date for the re-examination.

An Earlier Tragedy in the NEET Controversy

The tragedy has once again highlighted the immense pressure faced by NEET aspirants across the country. For Akanksha's family, the controversy is no longer just a national debate but a personal loss. While her room still holds the books, notes, and dreams of a young girl who aspired to become a doctor and lift her family out of poverty, her loved ones are left grieving a daughter whose final message was filled with fear, uncertainty, and an apology. Her death has reignited concerns about the mental health challenges faced by students preparing for high-stakes examinations.
