Mahua Moitra to file complaint over alleged egg-tomato protest plan

Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool MP, stated on Sunday that she would file a formal complaint against BJP w who planned to throw eggs and tomatoes at her. She warned that political opposition should not be permitted to turn into "physical intimidation" and that she was ready to take the issue all the way to the Supreme Court if needed.

Planned Protest Fails

The Krishnanagar MP responded sharply after alleging that, prior to her planned appearance in connection with a matter on Thursday, a group of BJP women members had gathered outside the Krishnanagar district court with eggs and tomatoes. However, Moitra failed to show there for unknown reasons, and the scheduled protest never happened.

A new form of public protest

Reports say that throwing eggs at Trinamool functionaries has emerged as a new form of public protest. 

What began as protests against Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has evolved into a pattern of demonstrative protests involving rotten eggs being thrown at party functionaries of varying ranks.

On Saturday, Moitra posted photographs on Facebook showing 13 BJP women workers waiting with eggs and tomatoes. She later released a video message directed at those she accused of planning the protest.

I'll make a formal complaint. I shall bring a case before the magistrate under Section 156(3) if it is rejected. I'll go to the High Court if the magistrate doesn't listen. I will go to the Supreme Court if the HC does not act," she stated in the video.

Moitra also mentioned the recent event in which Ujjwal Biswas, a former minister of state penal administration, was allegedly pelted with eggs by a crowd at his house, while representatives from the nearby BDO office had visited to retrieve humanitarian supplies kept there.

I had requested that Ujjwal file a formal complaint but he didn’t do it . However, I'll file a formal complaint against them, Moitra declared.
