Despite all the scientific and technological progress, some corners of society remain entirely trapped by superstition. While the judicial system remains the primary means for seeking justice and establishing truth, certain incidents still highlight how superstition continues to influence decision-making in some parts of society.

One of these incidents has been recorded in the capital of Jharkhand, Ranchi, where a boy was allegedly given inhuman punishment due to allegations of theft.

To prove his innocence, his hands were allegedly dipped into hot water mixed with cow dung, leaving him severely burnt.

This incident was reported from the Sarwa Village, under Narkopi Police Station area. According to sources, around ₹20,000 was stolen from one house in the village, and after that an 18-year-old, Anup Uranv, was allegedly accused of the theft. Some people caught him and started forcing him to confess to the theft.

It is alleged that, in an attempt to determine the truth behind the theft, the boy’s hands were dipped into cow dung-mixed boiling hot water. According to people, if he had done nothing, he would not have been hurt even if his hands were dipped in hot boiling water.

However, the youth was shouting due to pain, but no one helped him, and in this incident both his hands were brutally injured.

After that, his parents took him to a private hospital in Ranchi for treatment, where he was treated. After receiving the information, police reached the hospital and recorded the statements of the victim youth and his mother. Police have filed the case and started the investigation.

According to officials, the whole incident is being investigated and based on the facts that emerge, further action will be taken accordingly.
