The administration of the state of Jharkhand has canceled 44 examinations that have been conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission as well as the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. This was done after several weeks of demonstrations against the recruitment exams conducted by these two organizations. This was in the wake of reports regarding issues that occurred during the tests leading to dissatisfaction among those who wanted to join the examinations. An announcement from the state’s personnel department made on Wednesday morning stated that the examinations have been canceled.

What Exams Have Been Scrapped

The number of exams that have been scrapped is quite large. First, the examination for those who wish to become drug inspectors has been done away with. It's not only that, but the exam for assistant professors wishing to work in the government engineering and medical colleges has also been stopped.

Lecturers, senior scientific officers and forest range officers have also had their examinations cancelled. Examinations that would enable someone to be employed as a judge, a junior division post, have been scrapped. The same goes for the public prosecutors, deputy collectors, assistant engineers and dentists examinations.

The Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination has been scrapped a number of times. In addition to this, examinations like those of food safety officers, child development project officers, food analysts, geologists, chemists and many other administrative posts have also been stopped.

Government's Next Steps and Ongoing Unrest

The government will file for a High Court to form a court that will fast track the cases related to the irregularities found in the exams. The government has already formed a committee that is supposed to review how the JPSC and JSSC exams are conducted. It is headed by Amitabh Kaushal, an IAS officer and has two months to make their recommendations.

Despite the exams having been cancelled, the protests continue. Many people who have already appeared for these exams and secured government jobs feel that they have been cheated. JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch, the organization that started these protests is discussing its next moves. While some protesters want cancellation of the exams along with a CBI probe in the case. The JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch and the protesters are watching Government's moves and want to see how the JPSC and JSSC exams would turn out.
