Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Ministry of Education has emphasized the growing internationalization of higher education in India. The UGC Regulations, 2023 have bolstered India's international academic footprint while fostering quality and competition in the higher education sector, according to a recent post on X by the ministry.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, along with Dr. Vineet Joshi, Interim Chair, UGC, and Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, handed over the Letter of Intent to the University of Liverpool, one of the UK’s premier academic institutions, for setting up a campus in India.
The ministry claims that 15 international institutions have been granted Letters of Intent (LoIs) in accordance with the rules, paving the way for their campuses in India. The program aims to create new options for higher education without forcing students to travel overseas and to bring internationally recognized institutions closer to Indian students.
Improving education in India
The international university campuses will provide top-notch education and research possibilities within India, according to the Ministry of Education. The action is anticipated to enhance academic cooperation, promote knowledge sharing, and give students access to global curriculum and instructional strategies.
The program is in line with the more general objectives of NEP 2020, which aims to improve education in India by promoting innovation, research, and international involvement.
Fee discounts for students?
According to the ministry's infographic, educational schools must maintain student-teacher ratios between 12:1 and 25:1 in order to provide more academic support and individualized learning opportunities.
Affordability is another important benefit that the administration has emphasized. When compared to studying at the same schools abroad, students pursuing degrees at these campuses may be eligible for fee discounts ranging from 18% to 74%.
This could lessen the cost of studying overseas while increasing access to foreign education for a greater number of Indian students.
This development marks a significant step towards positioning India as a global education hub and expanding access to international quality higher education within the country.
