The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for Gujarat, and an orange warning for Mumbai on Thursday.
The IMD says the districts of Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar are on red alert until Friday.
The IMD forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in North Gujarat, with extremely heavy rainfall expected at a few locations in Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar districts.
Mumbai Under Orange Alert
As per the IMD advisory, until 8:30 am on Friday, 24th July, Mumbai along with its surrounding districts of Thane and Palghar, is expected to continue receiving strong winds and heavy rainfall. A red alert has been issued for Palghar for the next 24 hours due to the forecast of severe weather conditions.
Mumbai's Water Stock Rises
Mumbai's total water stock in all seven lakes that supply water to the city has increased to 69.74 percent due to the heavy rainfall in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), an increase of 7.84 percentage points in the last day.
Heavy Rain Continues Across India
Meanwhile, very heavy rainfall (12–20 cm) was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim, Punjab, Nagaland, Bardhaman, coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka.
