Himachal Pradesh’s monsoon woes are worsening every day with up to 259 highways closed across the state and 157 fatalities reported in landslides and rain-related incidents.
According to the latest data from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), around 900 houses and public infrastructure have been damaged due to incessant rainfall, with the estimated damage standing at Rs 886 crore.

The report, covering the period from June 30 to August 9, stated that 89 people died in road accidents, while around 68 people lost their lives in landslides and flash floods. Around 257 people are reported missing.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in five districts, suggesting that Himachal Pradesh’s troubles are far from over.

The state’s power supply has also been affected, with Kullu and Mandi among the worst-hit districts. Around 161 distribution transformers (DTRs) have remained non-functional for more than a week. Mandi has the highest number at 77, followed by Shimla with 43 and Kullu with 40.
