The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai on Friday following several days of unrelenting monsoon showers that have affected transportation services and flooded areas of the city.
Over the weekend, the IMD forecast severe to very heavy rainfall along with sporadic periods of extremely heavy rainfall.
IMD predicted that on Sunday, there was potential for severe weather that could disrupt daily life and the city’s transport systems.
Cancellation of four IndiGo flights
Flight operations in Mumbai faced disruptions due to heavy rainfall. Heavy rain and strong winds forced Mumbai International Airport authorities to halt all runway operations for an hour on Sunday, resulting in the cancellation of four IndiGo flights and the diversion of thirteen arriving planes from different operators to neighbouring airports, according to sources.
However, they stated that the 13 flights that were rerouted because of inclement weather eventually returned to Mumbai.
Passengers faced difficulties
According to sources, 45% of incoming flights were arriving late at Mumbai International Airport and 90% of outbound flights were leaving with an average delay of 65 minutes, which was negatively affecting passengers.
The four IndiGo flights that were cancelled are 6E 395 (Delhi–Mumbai), 6E 5273 (Mumbai–Indore), 6E 552 (Indore–Mumbai), and 6E 6613 (Mumbai–Delhi), as per sources.
After seeing the condition, IndiGo issued a travel advisory on X,
Due to adverse weather conditions in Mumbai, flight operations are impacted. We understand that extended wait times, both on the ground and onboard, may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience.

However, the four flights that were cancelled at Mumbai International Airport were not mentioned by IndiGo.
