Over 200 female students from a government residential school in Lucknow protested over a shortage of teachers, poor-quality food and other issues on Monday morning. They blocked the Lucknow-Dubbaga road and left the institution through a rear gate.
The nearly two-hour protest disrupted traffic on the busy route before police and senior Welfare Department and district administration officials intervened. The students were from ‘Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya for Girls’ in the Para area.
Students Demand Action Over School Issues
Some students were seen in videos sitting in a row in front of cars, while others formed a human chain by holding hands. They raised slogans and called for senior administrative officials to visit the spot, listen to their complaints and take action to address their problems.
Three days earlier, around 100 students from the school's boys' campus staged a similar protest over a shortage of teachers and other issues.
Officials Intervene, Students Return To School
Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya has separate campuses and buildings for its boys' and girls' sections. The school is run by the Uttar Pradesh Welfare Department.
When police arrived, they tried to persuade the students to clear the road. Around 50 students stayed at the protest site after most of the students had left.
Later, senior officials from the district administration and Welfare Department reached the spot and spoke to the protesting students. The students were then taken back to the school by the officials, who listened to their complaints and tried to address the issues they had raised.
