Delhi Park Murder: 30-Year-Old Man Stabbed to Death, Woman Injured After Fight Over Comments

A 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Tuesday afternoon inside a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) park in Bharat Nagar, Northwest Delhi, after he allegedly confronted four young people for making crude comments about his female acquaintance, who was also seriously injured in the assault.

A minor has been taken into custody by the police, while the other accused have escaped and police are trying to find them. Officers reported that a murder case had been registered.

Sunil dies, friend Devki hospitalised

Sunil, a native of Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, was identified by the police as the deceased. According to the police, he was in Delhi on a visit at the time of the incident. Devki, a 26-year-old Jahangirpuri resident and his friend, has been admitted to the hospital.

According to the police, Sunil and Devki had been sitting on a bench at Baba Chaudhary Khimman Singh Park in Ashok Vihar since around 2:30 pm. About an hour later, four young people allegedly approached them and made crude remarks about Devki.

Sunil became very angry and responded with insults, which led to a fight. At that point, one of the accused allegedly stabbed Sunil and Devki, according to a senior officer. When a park guard heard Devki crying, he rushed to the scene.

Victim suffered multiple stab wounds

After both victims were taken to the hospital, Sunil was declared dead. According to authorities, Sunil had four stab wounds, including injuries to his face and chest.

Devki claimed in her initial statement, according to the police, that three or four men had approached them in the park before an altercation broke out. 

"Sunil approached them after they passed comments on Devki, and one of the attackers pulled out a knife and stabbed him. After stabbing Devki, the accused fled," an officer said.

Police launch hunt for remaining suspects

To find and apprehend the remaining suspects, two teams headed by Inspector Robin Tyagi have been formed, according to the police. Devki and Sunil had known each other for years. Sunil worked at a shop that bent iron and frequently travelled to Delhi for work. Devki was employed as a caretaker.

"They had already met several times with Sunil's acquaintance," an officer stated.

"We were unable to speak to her much because of her extremely serious condition. Devki's family has been informed about the incident, while Sunil's family is travelling from UP," the officer added.
