Assam Flood Death Toll Rises to 66; Relief Campaign Intensifies as Waters Recede

The flood situation in Assam is getting better now because the water levels have gone down in districts. This happened after it stopped raining for a while.. The flood is still affecting a lot of people more than 6.54 lakh people in six districts.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority says that Sivasagar is the district that is affected the worst. Charaideo and Jorhat are badly affected.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that the number of people who died in the flood this year has gone up to 66. One person died in Guwahati Urban. Four people died in the last 24 hours. Three of them were from Sivasagar. One was from Charaideo. The flood in Assam is still a problem, for many people.'

BJP Launches ₹12 Crore Relief Initiative

The Assam BJP is trying to help families who were affected by the flood. They want to give two lakh Mekhela-Chadors to women and clothes to two lakh children in the affected areas like Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat and Jorhat. The Assam BJP has announced a relief campaign of ₹12 crore to support these flood affected families.

The Assam BJP party leader is asking all the BJP workers in Assam and the rest of the country to help with this campaign. He thinks they can collect the money they need in four to five days.

Relief and Rescue Operations Continue

Even though things are getting better a lot of villages are still underwater. 810 Villages are submerged and a lot of agricultural land has been damaged. 34,971 Hectares of agricultural land have been damaged. The authorities have set up relief camps and distribution centres to help people. They are operating 274 relief camps and distribution centres. Helping over 18,900 people who had to leave their homes.

The Army, NDRF, SDRF, Assam Police, Fire and Emergency Services and local administration are all working together to rescue people and give them the help they need. A team, from the government has also come to Assam to see how bad the damage is.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi looked at the flood situation again. Said the central government will fully support the state to help people and rebuild. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving his support to the people of Assam to help them with relief, rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
