The alleged suicide note of Ashish Banerjee, the deceased former Deputy Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly, reportedly reads,
“I never engaged in corruption. It was a blunder to join politics.”
He was also a former Trinamool Congress MLA from Rampurhat in Birbhum district. According to sources, Banerjee was found hanging at a party office on Sunday morning. The alleged suicide note was found at the party office next to his Hattalapara residence in Ward V of the Rampurhat Municipality.
The body of the former MLA has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Authorities said the exact circumstances surrounding his death are still being investigated.

“No one is responsible for my death.”
In the letter, he reportedly expressed regret over entering politics and cautioned his family members against getting involved in politics.
Suicide Note Contains Corruption Allegations
In the note, Banerjee repeatedly claimed that he had never engaged in corruption. He also said that although he had differences with his party's political ideology, he could not protest against its alleged wrongdoings.
“I was involved with politics since my student life. But I was never involved in corruptions in my life. I was a general secretary of the students’ union in Bardhaman University but never involved in corruptions. We had differences in our political ideology but there was no enmity. I could never protest against the party’s misdeeds. I did never take single paise against any work I have done,” he wrote in the note.
Suicide Note Under Investigation
In the 2026 Bengal Assembly elections, BJP candidate Dhruba Saha defeated Banerjee from the Rampurhat constituency by 24,233 votes.
