Yogi Adityanath Remembers Freedom Fighter Gulab Singh Lodhi

In remembrance of the death anniversary of freedom fighter Gulab Singh Lodhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tributes to him on Sunday. Yogi Adityanath assured that the government would always work to preserve the legacy of the freedom fighters who gave their lives for India. While talking to people in Jhandewala Park, Aminabad, he spoke about the courage of Gulab Singh Lodhi. The significance of the event is that Jhandewala Park in Aminabad is where Gulab Singh Lodhi raised the tricolor flag during the battle for independence.

Remembering Lodhi’s Struggle Against British Rule

The Chief Minister highlighted how Lodhi had bravely resisted the British regime by hoisting the flag of the country in the park, an action which eventually led to his death. He was killed by the British authorities, but Lodhi’s martyrdom has created a golden era for the struggle for India’s independence. Hailing from Unnao in 1903, Lodhi actively participated in the struggle for the country’s independence and later sacrificed his life in Lucknow. The Chief Minister further highlighted how India gained its freedom from British rule just twelve years after Lodhi’s martyrdom. It is pertinent to mention here that the state government has named a park, health center, and police training institute in Unnao after Lodhi.

Honor Given to Social Justice Icons by State Government

Adityanath has elaborated on the methods in which the government has shown its respect to our icons as well. For instance, a stadium in Aligarh and PAC battalions in Badaun and Lucknow have been named after Veerangana Avanti Bai Lodhi. Moreover, there is also a women's battalion in Gorakhpur that has been named after Veerangana Jhalkari Bai Kori and a medical college in Auraiya that has been named after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar. It is also noteworthy that the government has sanctioned ₹500 crore for the development of social justice icons including B R Ambedkar, Sant Ravidas and Maharishi Valmiki.
