75-year-old Pramod Kumar Tyagi, an ex-professor from Vardhman College, met his death by jumping into the Ganga river from the Bijnor Ganga Barrage. According to police, Pramod Kumar Tyagi, son of Jaswant Tyagi, resided in Geeta Nagri Colony, Bijnor. As per information from police, Pramod Kumar Tyagi reached the Bijnor Ganga Barrage and then jumped into the Ganga river from Gate Number 28. Some policemen who were drinking tea nearby were informed of the matter, and they quickly rushed to the spot. The divers were called to conduct the operation, and after some time, the body of Pramod Kumar Tyagi was found floating towards the pillar of a bridge being built near the Bijnor Ganga Barrage.

Who Is Pramod Kumar Tyagi?

Pramod Kumar Tyagi was the head of the zoology department of Vardhman College and used to be a guide for many students. His family consists of his wife, one son, and two daughters. Both his daughters are married now, and they live in their own families, while his son lives outside the district. As per police sources, Pramod Kumar Tyagi was facing a case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Even though the case hearing was already over, the case was not decided till then, and Tyagi was under stress due to this case.

Rising Number Of Suicides At Bijnor Ganga Barrage

Abhay Kumar Pandey, City Circle Officer, said that the reason why Tyagi died was still unclear and that the case was being investigated. He further added that the body had been sent for post-mortem tests. It was also noted by officials that the Ganga Barrage has now become a site of suicides, where over a dozen people have committed suicide in the past year.
