Hardened narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh, alias Nav Bhullar, has been deported from Turkiye, where he was allegedly living under a fake identity as Navab Virk, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday.

Shah said the accused had obtained Turkish citizenship under the fake identity and continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine to India from Afghanistan.

Shah posted on his official X account:

“Modi govt has achieved a historic milestone by securing the deportation of hardened narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Türkiye.

“Obtaining Turkish citizenship under the fake identity of Navab Virk, he had continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine to India from Afghanistan.”

Shah added that the agencies had tracked him down and brought him back to India.

“Today he has been brought back to India and put behind bars in connection with cases involving drug trafficking and other crimes he is accused of. Congratulations to all the agencies for this success,” he said.

Shah also said that the Modi government was committed to destroying every narco-cartel before December 2029.

Why is Navpreet described as a hardened narco-trafficking kingpin?

Navpreet Singh, also known as Nav Bhullar and allegedly using the identity Navab Virk, was born in 1990 in Amritsar, Punjab. He belongs to Vajir Bhullar village in Beas, Amritsar district.

Navpreet allegedly started supplying opium and heroin at the regional level. He came to light after cases were registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police also began searching for him after his name was allegedly linked to the Chintu murder case in Phillaur, Punjab.

As raids by the Punjab Police and central agencies increased, Navpreet allegedly fled India with the help of a fake passport and his network. He later moved to Turkiye, where he allegedly created a fake identity as Navab Virk to distance himself from his previous identity and obtained Turkish citizenship.

In Turkiye, he allegedly established contact with drug cartels in Afghanistan and started supplying heroin and methamphetamine, also known as “ice”, to India through land and sea routes.

Navpreet identified as alleged syndicate mastermind

The Delhi Police Special Cell recovered more than 350 kg of heroin in the national capital. Following investigations at the national and international levels, Navpreet was allegedly identified as the mastermind behind the syndicate.

India’s security and investigative agencies allegedly contacted the Turkish government and provided technical and biometric evidence to establish that Navab Virk was actually fugitive Navpreet Singh.

Following the verification process, the Turkish government deported him to India. He has now been taken into custody in connection with the cases against him.
