Trafficking Racket Busted In Arunachal, 19 Children Rescued

A child trafficking gang in Arunachal Pradesh has been busted by the police in Arunachal Pradesh which was operating in various districts. In this operation, the Arunachal Pradesh Police have rescued 19 children. Most of the children are less than 8 years of age group. One of the children is reported to be only around 3 years of age. The officials revealed that the children belonged to places like Mechuka, Aalo, Pasighat, Naharlagun, Itanagar and Longding. There is search being conducted by the police for other victims.

Operation of the Trafficking Network

According to the police report, the accused identified poor families that had financial struggles. The accused exploited families through promises of good schools and a promising future for the children to make them trust him. Once he convinced families, children were allegedly abducted from the families. The children were then shifted to different locations and handed over to strange people. Some of the children were allegedly used by the traffickers as domestic workers or laborers in hotels. Money transactions have been identified in the case, where the amount ranges from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 for each child.

The investigation is on

The case was registered at the Namsai police station on August 17 after the Child Welfare Committee, Namsai, filed an FIR against the perpetrators. The kids underwent medical examinations after they were rescued. The children also gave statements before a magistrate, which is mandated in the child protection policy. A Special Investigation Team, headed by the Superintendent of Police, Namsai, Sangey Thinley, along with his deputy SP, Martin Ratan, is conducting an investigation on call data records, online transactions and other digital evidence to trace out all those connected with the racket.
