Supreme Court Seeks SIT Status Report in Ayodhya Ram Mandir Donation Case

The apex court has asked the Uttar Pradesh Government SIT, investigating the alleged misuse of donations collected in the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, to file a status report on its investigation. The Supreme Court has also issued notice to the Center, the Uttar Pradesh Government, and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

Probe Under Judicial Scrutiny

This case is on account of the petitions filed for carrying out an independent probe in relation to the charges against the misuse of cash and valuables offered as donations by the followers. In the process of hearing, the Supreme Court demanded that the SIT should reveal the composition of the panel and the status of investigation carried out by the panel.

SIT, which has been constituted by the government of Uttar Pradesh, has already started its investigation and made progress in the same. Nevertheless, the intervention of the court is an indication that the court will be exercising more control over the probe being carried out in one of the most important religious places in India.
