The tourism department of Sikkim received an Award of Excellence at the Travel & Tourism Fair held in Mumbai. This award signifies the efforts made by the tourism department of Sikkim in promoting rural tourism as well as sustainable tourism in the whole state. According to some officials on Sunday, the award has been given due to the efforts made by the state for responsible tourism. The state ensures that community involvement as well as environmental protection takes place through responsible travel practices. The award has been presented in a scenario where the state has participated as a partner state in the fair that was held from August 20-22. During the fair, the state showcased tourism and other natural attractions of Sikkim through the Sikkim INSPIRES campaign.

Award Celebrates Sikkim’s Sustainable Tourism Model

According to the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department of the State, this award acknowledges the hard work of Sikkim in promoting community-based tourism, which will help locals make a living through sustainable practices. The pavilion of Sikkim attracted people on all three days. The second day was the most successful because tourism experts and trade delegates showed interest in Sikkim’s tourism potential.

Mumbai Market Reaction Strengthens Tourism Prospects

According to the statement by the department, the feedback received from the Mumbai market was overwhelmingly positive. The visitors were keen on visiting Sikkim, and several tour packages were purchased during the event. They are optimistic about the chances of luring more tourists from Maharashtra and other parts of India. Over fifteen stakeholders attended the event. They were members of the Village Tourism Development Committees of Rabong and Pakyong as well as Buddha Park in Ravangla and hotel and travel agency owners.
