Rahul Gandhi Stages Sit-In Outside PM Modi’s Residence Over Crackdown on CJP Protest

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday staged a sit-in protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, intensifying his criticism of the Centre over the Delhi Police crackdown on the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Sansad Chalo’ march held on Monday.

Gandhi reached 7, Lok Kalyan Marg along with Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several senior Congress leaders. Sitting on the road outside the Prime Minister’s residence, the leaders raised slogans demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh was later deputed by the administration to speak with the protesting leaders. He reached the protest site and held discussions with Rahul Gandhi, while more Congress workers and leaders reportedly made their way to join the demonstration.

Rahul Gandhi Demands PM Modi’s Resignation

“We have marched to PM Modi’s house to demand answers from him for the brutalities against young students yesterday,” Gandhi wrote in a post on X.

He further said,

“The PM and HM must resign for destroying the future of India’s youth.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Police urged the Congress leaders to end the sit-in protest, citing security concerns as the Prime Minister’s residence falls under a high-security zone.

Videos shared by the Congress on X showed Rahul Gandhi distributing zip ties to party leaders, who were seen fastening their wrists together as a symbolic gesture to avoid being separated during possible detentions. Police also erected barricades on roads leading to the Prime Minister’s residence to stop more protesters from reaching the site.

Protest Linked to CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ March

The Congress protest came just hours after Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to meet people injured during the police action against the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march on Monday.

The CJP had organised the march to Parliament to protest the alleged NEET paper leak and demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

According to a Congress MP, the party leadership deliberately kept the protest plan confidential to prevent the police from receiving prior information.

Kerala Congress leader V.D. Satheesan, who was in Delhi at the time, also joined the protest after learning about it.
