The remains of a woman were discovered hidden under a slab in the kitchen of a rented house in Puri, Odisha, late on Monday night, and her missing son is a prime suspect in the murder case. The woman had been missing for some time, whereas her son had been missing since Monday. The two were living under the rent of their landlord, Manorama Sahu, who contacted the police due to a foul smell from the house.
Body of Woman Found Buried Under Kitchen Slab
It took the police and other investigators three hours to try and gain entry into a box-shaped construction that had been erected beneath the kitchen slab. Puri Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh said that there were some new constructions with fresh cement work in the kitchen. Wastewater and other things were leaking out from beneath the kitchen slab. There was a very strong odor emerging from inside. The woman and her son had taken rent of the place two months ago. At first, Sahu thought the smell might be from a cat or a rat, but he grew very concerned when the smell became very strong.
Puri Police Begin Investigating Woman's Death
The police reached the residence but found it unoccupied. The body was removed from there in the presence of the magistrate and scientific team before conducting the post-mortem test. The woman has not yet been identified. Police stated that the disappearance of her son raised suspicion on him. However, his role has yet to be established. The investigators are collecting technical evidence to determine the cause of death and the manner in which it occurred. "We are collecting all sorts of evidence and trying to figure out the reason behind the incident and how exactly it happened," Singh said.
