'Our Protest Will Continue': CJP After Sonam Wangchuk Ends Hunger Strike

The founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, Abhijeet Dipke, expressed relief on Friday following the end of activist Sonam Wangchuk's 26-day hunger strike. However, he made it clear that the party would continue its peaceful protest until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned.

The Cockroach Janta Party has called for a nationwide march today in support of the students who were allegedly subjected to police brutality. Meanwhile, Abhijeet Dipke praised activist Sonam Wangchuk for his support of the CJP's protest.

Dipke said that Wangchuk awakened the nation's conscience by risking his own life. He reaffirmed that the Cockroach Janta Party's peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar would continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.

Parliament to discuss paper leaks

After meeting Union Ministers Jitendra Singh and JP Nadda at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, activist Sonam Wangchuk called off his prolonged hunger strike.

"Just now, in the presence of Union Ministers JP Nadda, Dr. Jitendra Singh, and the senior leaders of the Apex Body of Leh Ladakh, I finally broke my fast after 26 days," he wrote in a post on X.

After discussing Sonam Wangchuk's health, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh offered him a drink. The Union Health Minister said that the government has already assured that discussions on education reforms and paper leaks will be held in Parliament.

JP Nadda also conveyed the government's assurance to Wangchuk, saying:

"The government is positive about not registering cases against those who participated in the July 20, 2026, march to Parliament and those who protested peacefully at Jantar Mantar in Delhi."

He further said that the government is also positively considering appropriate compensation for the families of students who died by suicide following the recent NEET paper leak controversy.

Following Wangchuk's announcement that he had ended his hunger strike, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on social media,

"I urge Sonam ji to follow his daily routine as advised by the doctors and regain his weight as soon as possible. I pray to God to keep Sonam ji healthy."

The Cockroach Janta Party also shared the dos and don'ts for the nationwide march on social media platform X. Members of various student organisations were instructed to manage logistics and seek permission from local authorities. The CJP identified 33 cities, including Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bhopal, Patna, Guwahati, Kalaburgi, and Visakhapatnam, where protests have taken place in recent days.
