Netflix’s new series “Operation Safed Sagar” is not just about fighter jets, combat missions or the 1999 Kargil War. At its heart, the show attempts to tell the story of the people who wore the uniform and the families who waited for them back home.

Inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role during the Kargil conflict, the series follows the Golden Arrows Squadron as its officers carry out difficult high-altitude missions. Alongside the action, it explores their personal lives, relationships and the emotional pressures that came with going to war. Actors Siddharth and Jimmy Shergill believe that keeping these stories real was more important than turning the characters into larger-than-life heroes.

Siddharth, who plays Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, admitted that he was initially unsure about taking up the role. Playing someone who actually lived and served came with a sense of responsibility. For the cast, that responsibility meant avoiding exaggerated patriotism and instead finding it in quieter moments, the fear, courage, duty and sacrifices of ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances.
