The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced on Sunday that candidates affected by power outages during the NEET-PG 2026 exam at two iON Digital Zone iDZ centres in Jaipur's Sitapura district will take a re-examination on September 5.

Exam centres 41,682 and 41,683 in Jaipur were unable to complete the exam, according to NBEMS, "due to internal power failure issues at the centre, attributed to M/s TCS Ltd., the exam conducting agency."

The Board said the re-examination would be held in Jaipur on September 5 at 3 pm. It stated that updated admit cards would also be issued and that further details about the re-examination venue would be announced separately.

“NBEMS apologises to the affected candidates for the inconvenience caused.”

NBEMS forms panel to probe Jaipur exam disruption

A three-member committee has reportedly been constituted by NBEMS to investigate the power supply issue, the reasons behind the disruption and the events leading up to it. The committee will include a senior Rajasthan government official, a joint secretary from the Union Health Ministry and a senior engineering official from the Central Electricity Authority. According to sources, the committee will submit its findings within the stipulated time.

"There was no paper leak, cybercrime or hacking," said Dr Abhijat Sheth, president of NBEMS. "No complaints were filed. But there was one issue. Internal power outages at the Jaipur Sitapura centres prevented about 2,445 candidates from completing their exams. Additionally, to maintain the sanctity of the examination, we had to postpone it."

He said, “We will conduct the test in the same manner and keep in mind that the scores are not affected.”

Health Ministry assures fair re-examination for candidates

Officials from the Union Health Ministry said that NBEMS had also apologised for the inconvenience caused to the affected candidates and that the purpose of the re-examination was to ensure they were given a fair and equal opportunity.

In a post on X, Congress said,

“The NEET-PG exam scheduled for 9 am in Jaipur could not even start until noon. Students and their families continued to suffer due to PM Modi’s pathetic system, while the entire government slept soundly under the covers. Once again, it has been proven that the Modi government cannot conduct even a single exam properly. Shame on them.”

According to NBEMS, 2,73,096 registered candidates appeared for the NEET-PG 2026 exam on August 30 at 1,111 centres across 339 cities. Of these, 2,65,980 candidates took the test, while 2,63,535 completed it.
