Kangana Ranaut on Parliament Protest: "Government Cannot Be Arm-Twisted", Says Public Pressure Can't Decide Policies

Actress and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut criticized attempts to put pressure on the government over its internal decisions as Cockroach Janta Party related protests grew more intense near Parliament during the Monsoon Session. While arguing that political pressure and disruption shouldn't control how the government operates, she stated that the legislature exists for discussion and accountability.

Ranaut Highlights Role of Parliament

Speaking to reporters, Ranaut stated that the goal of parliamentary proceedings is to allow for in-depth conversations on national matters while guaranteeing that the government is held accountable.

She said,

“Our parliamentary session is there so that we can discuss all issues in detail, and the government is held accountable for everything. That is its purpose, and we want the session to proceed and for them to raise their questions there, but if they create a ruckus and cause chaos there, as they are doing with this protest, then that is not right.”

Additionally, the she rejected demands to decide whether or not ministers and government personnel should be kept in their positions. Ranaut asserted that public pressure is insufficient to resolve such issues.

"You cannot arm-twist the government into deciding whom to sack and whom to keep. This arm-twisting is not good," Ranaut said.

She further added,

“It is the right of the government chosen by the people to decide how to run the government. If you feel so strongly, you should stand for election yourself.”

Clash Over Police Action During Protest March

Protesters faced strict security measures throughout central Delhi as the scheduled march towards Parliament began.

The CJP said that protesters were stopped by police using a lathi charge. Delhi Police, however, refuted the allegation, claiming that no such action had occurred.

Unapproved March Halted Near Parliament

Police eventually used tear gas shells to scatter the demonstrators as they continued to advance on Parliament, where the Monsoon Session is currently underway.

Authorities had earlier declared that the march had not received permission and issued a warning that any unapproved procession in the direction of Parliament would not be allowed.

Sonam Wangchuk declared that he would continue his indefinite fast from Safdarjung Hospital, while Dipke called off his hunger strike.
