IndiGo flight 6E 225 (VT-NOG), which was travelling from Navi Mumbai to Srinagar, collided with a Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) pole while parking at Srinagar Airport on Friday.
The incident took place at around 9 am. No injuries were reported, and all passengers and crew members were safe. Airport operations continued normally. However, the incident caused some damage to the aircraft, according to news agency PTI.
“An IndiGo aircraft (VT-NOG), while trying to separate from Bay No. 6, had its nose collide with the VDGS pole,” the Airport Authority of India (AAI) said in an official statement. “No injuries have been reported, and all passengers and crew members are safe,” it added.
Appropriate Authorities to Examine Incident
The airport authority said the aircraft had suffered damage in the incident and that the circumstances leading to it would be examined by the appropriate authorities as per prescribed procedures.
“The exact cause will be ascertained following the completion of the inquiry, and no conclusion regarding the cause is being drawn at this stage,” the AAI said.
Airport operations remained normal, with flight arrivals and departures continuing as scheduled, it added.
The aircraft involved in the incident has been grounded by IndiGo for necessary repairs and technical evaluation. The Airbus aircraft, VT-NOG, will resume operations only after obtaining the necessary structural clearances from aviation safety authorities. Meanwhile, the AAI and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are investigating the incident to determine whether the collision was caused by a flight crew error, a ground-handling coordination issue, or a malfunction in the airport's VDGS.
An investigation report on the details of the incident has been sought.
