India Sends Forensic Experts To Aid Nepal Flood Victims

New Delhi, August 30: An expert team has been dispatched to Nepal by India to assist in the analysis of DNA samples and to help determine the identity of those who have died in the recent floods. So far, 734 fatalities have been reported till Sunday evening. Identification of victims in light of the fatalities has become exceedingly difficult. It is an aspect of the relief efforts being conducted by India in its neighbouring nation.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Meets Forensic Team In Kathmandu

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava met the forensic team after their arrival. Spokesperson of MEA Randhir Jaiswal stated on X that the forensic team would cooperate with the Nepali government on DNA testing to identify the deceased from the flood. Moreover, Srivastava mentioned that the specialists arrived in Nepal by Indians relief plane, and they will conduct DNA tests for the deceased from the Rasuwa flash floods.

Nepal Seeks Help For DNA Testing

Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal is of the view that forensic laboratories need support from outside. This is because over six hundred bodies have been recovered, most of which are in poor condition, hence difficult to identify. Khanal states that there is a need for a rapid DNA test, and Nepal has been searching for such support. The report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority says that two thousand four hundred nineteen people are still missing. There are warnings about the possibility of further flash floods in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.
