What appeared to be a typical road accident case in Ahmedabad has now turned out to be a horrifying case of an honor killing within a family. According to police reports, 22-year-old Sofia Farooq was neither killed in the hit-and-run incident, as stated earlier on August 12, nor by any other person; instead, she was killed by her own father and brother because of a video of herself with a boy going viral on the internet.
What Really Happened To Sofia?
Sofia was traveling on a motorcycle with her brother Habil in Chelajpura Char Rasta around 11 pm, and according to both of them, the vehicle had hit them from behind and fled. She had injuries to the head, but she was admitted to a hospital after being shifted to Civil Hospital, where she breathed her last breath at around 5 am the next day. This incident was registered initially as a case of hit-and-run by M Division Traffic Police Station. Upon further investigation in the case, however, the details did not seem to add up. It was discovered that a video clip of Sofia with a man had gone viral on social media, and due to this, the family was enraged. Habil and his father chased Sofia on a motorcycle and stopped near the village of Chelajpura, as per police reports. Habil is accused of hitting Sofia repeatedly with an iron hammer on the head, with his father assisting him. After this attack, Habil and his father are alleged to have staged the whole affair to look like an accident on the road.
Father, Son Booked For Murder
The DCP (Traffic-West), Bhavna Patel, has said that both men have been arrested and booked for murder. The father and son are involved in fabricating business, and Sofia was working as a receptionist at a hospital in Ahmedabad’s Juhapura region, according to police. Both the accused have been charged with murder.
