What if the mystery isn't just about catching a killer but confronting a force that refuses to die?
That's the intriguing question raised by the first look of 'Detective Boomrah and the Killer', the latest project from filmmaker, actor and storyteller Sudhanshu Rai. Marketed as India's first AI-based supernatural detective series, the upcoming thriller blends crime investigation, paranormal horror and AI-assisted visual storytelling into a genre rarely explored in Indian entertainment.
The nearly two-minute teaser opens in a desolate village shrouded in fear. Strange occurrences, haunting visuals and an unsettling atmosphere suggest that something far more dangerous than an ordinary criminal is at work. At the centre of the mystery is Detective Boomrah, a detective who doesn't chase bank robbers or serial killers alone, but investigates cases that defy logic, science and even death itself.
The teaser hints at a terrifying supernatural entity that follows its victims across lifetimes, forcing Boomrah into what appears to be one of the most dangerous investigations of his career. Rather than revealing the story outright, the first look leaves viewers with more questions than answers, a hallmark of any good mystery.
What makes the project stand out is its attempt to merge three worlds that rarely come together in Indian content: detective fiction, supernatural horror and artificial intelligence. The makers say AI has been used to enhance the visual experience, creating haunting landscapes, eerie imagery and cinematic effects that complement the story instead of overshadowing it.
For Sudhanshu Rai, however, the biggest focus remains the storytelling. "Detective Boomrah has always dealt with mysteries that lie beyond ordinary human understanding," Rai has said, adding that the new series aims to offer audiences a fresh and immersive experience unlike traditional detective dramas.
More Than Just Another Detective
While many viewers may be discovering Boomrah for the first time, the fictional detective already has a loyal fan base. Created by Sudhanshu Rai years ago, Detective Boomrah has appeared in more than 50 mystery stories, becoming known for investigating cases involving ghosts, curses, unexplained disappearances and supernatural forces rather than conventional crimes.
Stories such as The Killer, The Dark House, The Ghost Man, The Missing Mr. Kwatrochi, Soul Hunter and The End of the World have helped establish Boomrah as one of India's most distinctive fictional detectives. Through books, digital storytelling and podcasts, the character has steadily built a niche audience long before arriving on screen.
The character was previously adapted into a web series in 2022, directed by Sudhanshu Rai himself. The new project is being seen as the biggest expansion of the Detective Boomrah universe so far.
The Team Behind the Mystery
The series has been created by Sudhanshu Rai and Puneet Sharma, with Rai also writing the story and lending his voice to the lead character. AI visual execution and editing have been handled by Divyansh Sharma, while the project is produced under the banner of Saints Art Private Limited by Sudhanshu Rai, Manisha Sharma and Puneet Sharma.
What Lies Ahead?
An official release date is yet to be announced, but the first look has already generated curiosity among fans of mystery and horror. At a time when Indian audiences are increasingly embracing experimental storytelling, Detective Boomrah and the Killer hopes to carve its own space by combining suspense, folklore, supernatural intrigue and AI-powered filmmaking.
Whether it succeeds or not will be known after its release, but one thing is already clear, the mystery has begun long before the first episode arrives.
