The people of Delhi have been taken aback by a video that has gone viral online showing an assault by a man on a woman. According to reports, this video was shot in the Vikaspuri area of the capital city and features a man beating the woman repeatedly and throwing abuses at her in the middle of a busy street as cars are continuously passing by. It is not easy to watch these images. In fact, in one frame of the video, the man is pushing the woman so violently that she falls straight into the lane where there are cars, and she gets shoved into a car.
Public Assault Sparks Anger Online
The reason for the rage is that everything that happened occurred in public view. There was no one who came forward and tried to save her. Journalists keep posing tough questions to people in the media, questioning them about their inability to help despite the road being crowded with people and vehicles. The video fails to capture how the conflict began.
No Police Confirmation Yet
The fact is that up until September 4, there hasn't been any information as to whether a police complaint has been filed. Whether or not the couple seen in the video has been identified, and whether any arrest has been made, is unknown at the time of writing. This incident has once again brought into focus the safety of women in public places and the reactions, or lack thereof, from the crowd.
