Delhi is completing its preparations in the fields of security and traffic management as the city prepares to welcome the BRICS Summit. The summit is set to take place for three days and will be held at Bharat Mandapam from September 11 to 13. Preparations can be seen all around the New Delhi area. Posters regarding the summit have been hoisted all around in the last few months. Lighting has also been installed in the busy commercial areas such as Connaught Place and Khan Market in order to illuminate the city at night.
500 CCTV Cameras Installed Around Bharat Mandapam
The camera network forms an integral part of the security arrangement. 500 CCTV cameras have been installed both within and around the premises where the summit will be held. The security arrangement allows one to view all roads around the venue, and any odd behavior can be spotted and acted upon within a few seconds. Number plate recognition technology has been installed in some cameras that allows tracking of vehicles around the venue. The police, in addition to the installation of cameras, have devised a layering approach that includes surveillance, control of traffic and quick response teams to ensure smooth movement of the participants.
Police Commissioner Stresses Discipline And Professionalism
The plan for security was finalized in a meeting headed by the Delhi Police Commissioner, in which Special Commissioners and officers-in-charge of venues made their plans known. The Commissioner reiterated to the staff that the summit is in the spotlight, and their behavior will be monitored. The officers were instructed to maintain discipline, politeness, and professionalism at all costs; take responsibility for their tasks, and make sure that no mistakes take place. The Commissioner further cited the good record of Delhi Police in conducting events without hitches, and he was confident that the same would be achieved in this BRICS Summit.
