On Thursday, New Delhi witnessed tension amid demonstrations by the Cockroach Janta Party at the Parliament Street Police Station, in which the members called for severe measures against Swatantra Bhardwaj. This came after a clash that erupted during their previous demonstration at Jantar Mantar, in which the father of Nishu Azad, an activist, Sanjay, was reportedly attacked. A video featuring Swatantra Bhardwaj explaining the clash has recently gone viral, leading to anger, and the spokespersons of the Cockroach Janta Party, namely Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, organized the demonstration at the police station.
Protesters Question Delhi Police's Silence
Ranka, addressing the media, informed that Sanjay was attacked during the protest at Jantar Mantar, and the party had been demanding justice for the family. He went on to say that the Delhi Police, under the influence of the ruling party, did not take any action even though the person accused of the attack himself confessed to the crime, and he urged the Delhi Police to book him under the murder case. The same indignation was expressed by Das, who questioned why such persons can walk around freely in the city and threaten women as well. Azad Samaj Party MP Chandrashekhar Azad also addressed the media.
Bhardwaj Denies Charges, Calls It Self-Defence
Bhardwaj rejected the claims and stated that he was acting in self-defense when he was cornered by a crowd of people, and that the extent of injuries was not as serious as has been stated. The police stated that the injuries sustained by Sanjay were simple, and that he had received them because of a kada and not any kind of weapon, as the claim about a fractured skull was false. There is already a case registered against them at the Parliament Street police station.
