The employees of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence have foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal drugs into the country in Raipur. Four persons were arrested. About 376 kilogrammes of cannabis were seized. Two trucks were also seized, which were being used for the transportation of the drugs. This incident occurred on Tuesday. The intelligence was obtained by the agency after receiving some information regarding the unusual movement of vehicles in the city.

How The Trucks Were Intercepted

The officers of DRI arrested the two vehicles on Old Dhamtari Road in Raipur after tracking their journey. This was because the trucks followed a journey from Visakhapatnam to Chhattisgarh, via Odisha. The officers were apprehensive about the transport of drugs using these vehicles. They felt that the situation warranted an immediate check. A scrutiny of the load area revealed the presence of 61 parcels, concealed in 10 sacks. The parcels had been packaged in such a way that they would not be detected. On testing with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances field kit, the parcels proved to contain cannabis.

Four Held Under NDPS Act

Overall, 375.95 kilograms of marijuana along with both the trucks was seized by the agency. Four people associated with the operation were arrested. They were booked according to the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, which covers offences relating to narcotic substances in India. It has been observed that the case is under investigation to find out the source of the shipment as well as any persons involved in the process of smuggling. No other information has been made public at this point.
