Instagram has rolled out one of its biggest updates of 2026, introducing several new features that give users greater control over their experience while providing creators with more ways to boost engagement and reach.

One of the biggest additions is the ability to reorder photos and videos in an already published carousel. Users can now rearrange the order of slides and even add individual captions to each carousel image or video without deleting the post, preserving existing likes, comments and shares.

Instagram has also introduced photo comments, allowing users to reply to posts with images instead of just text, emojis or GIFs. Whether it's a meme, reaction photo or screenshot, conversations in the comments are becoming more visual and interactive.

Another major feature is "Your Algorithm," which lets users customize the topics they want to see in their Feed, Reels and Explore page. People can now tell Instagram to show them more or less of specific content, giving users unprecedented control over recommendations.

The platform has also launched Instants, a BeReal-inspired feature that allows users to share unedited, disappearing photos with friends through Direct Messages.

Meta is expanding Instagram beyond smartphones with Instagram for TV, now available on Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Google TV, allowing users to watch Reels and videos on larger screens.

For creators, Instagram's Edits app has received major AI-powered upgrades, including advanced editing tools, desktop support, script assistance and deeper performance analytics. Instagram is also testing AI Creator labels to identify AI-generated or AI-assisted content, improving transparency.

Another social feature, Blend, creates a shared Reels feed based on the interests of you and your friends, making content discovery more collaborative.

Instagram's algorithm has also evolved in 2026. The platform now prioritizes original content over reposts, while watch time, completion rate, saves and direct-message shares have become the strongest ranking signals. Videos with compelling openings and content frequently shared through DMs are more likely to reach a wider audience.

Together, these updates reflect Meta's push to make Instagram more personalized, creator-friendly and AI-powered, while encouraging authentic content and meaningful interactions.
