FDA in Maharashtra Suspends Licenses of Four Domino's Outlets in Hygiene Campaign

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has cancelled the food business licences of four Domino's Pizza stores. This was done on Wednesday at four different outlets. This was done at three different outlets in Mumbai and one outlet in Satara district. The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration is ensuring that all the restaurants in the state are clean and safe. According to the FDA Commissioner, Tukaram Mundhe, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration is auditing all food outlets in the state and not only Domino's Pizza. Domino's Pizza is one among the many food outlets being audited by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration.

Four Domino's Outlets' Licence Suspended

The suspended licences belong to four Domino's restaurants that are being operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd in Mumbai. They include one outlet each in Vile Parle West, Borivali West and R-City Mall in Ghatkopar West. The fourth one is based at Malkapur, Satara. Apart from these, two fast food outlets belonging to Sapphire Foods India in Karad, Satara were also put under suspension. This special drive conducted inspections of 104 chain restaurant establishments.

What Inspectors Discovered After Visiting Such Establishments

The food hygiene inspection authorities discovered several violations in the Domino's restaurants. In some of them, the proper food licences were not exhibited. Moreover, there was no effective process in place for preventing pest infestation. Proper storage of the food was missing in some restaurants. In the Ghatkopar Domino's, the food hygiene standards were not being met regarding food storage. In the Borivali Domino's, violations were observed in fifteen percent of cases. In the Malkapur Domino's, there was a problem in maintaining proper hygiene standards. In some forty percent of cases, the restaurants were violating basic food hygiene standards. The food inspection authorities have informed the Karad Dominos that they should provide ovens for vegetarian and non-vegetarian pizzas. They should label such pizzas as well. Violations in a Sapphire Foods restaurant in Akola have been reported. They have used paneer and contaminated ingredients in their menu items. The inspectors have inspected many other brand outlets like KFC, McDonald's, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks, and Monginis.
