Two fights, two commanding wins and two gold medals,  Indian boxing had plenty to celebrate in Glasgow on Saturday as Preeti Pawar and Jaismine Lamboria delivered memorable performances at the Commonwealth Games.

Preeti was the first to bring home gold, stepping into the women’s 54kg final against Canada’s Scarlett Delgado. She looked confident from the start and never allowed her opponent to settle into the contest. Preeti eventually sealed the bout with a convincing 5-0 victory, giving India a perfect start to the evening.

Then came Jaismine in the women’s 57kg final, where she faced defending champion Michaela Walsh of Northern IrelandUnlike Preeti’s dominant start, Jaismine had to work her way into the fight. The opening round was tight, with both boxers trading attacks and testing each other. Jaismine narrowly took the round on a split verdictFrom there, the reigning world champion found her rhythm. She boxed with greater control and eventually secured another 5-0 decision for India.

Within a short span, two Indian boxers had climbed to the top of the podium,  turning Saturday into a golden night for Indian women’s boxing.
